Our Approaches

Our work with you draws on a number of evidence based practices.

Some are listed below:

Recovery Model

The recovery model is a holistic, person-centered approach to mental health care. The key principle of the recovery model is the belief that people can recover from mental illness to lead full, satisfying lives. The model is based on two simple premises:

  1. It is possible to recover from a mental health condition.

  2. The most effective recovery is patient-directed.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on helping patients to behave more consistently with their own values and apply mindfulness and acceptance skills to their responses to uncontrollable experiences.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT places an emphasis on helping individuals learn to be their own therapists. Through exercises in the session as well as “homework” exercises outside of sessions, patients/clients are helped to develop coping skills, whereby they can learn to change their own thinking, problematic emotions, and behaviour.

Expressive Arts Therapy

Expressive arts therapy is a form of counselling that draws upon creative and embodied practices. Expressive arts Therapy understands that expression can occur in many forms beyond the verbal. It is through the creative process that we are able to approach our life experiences and current challenges in a manner that may be more suitable to our communication strengths.

Integrative Somatic Parts Work

Integrative Somatic Parts Work draws on various practices that give you a felt connection to your core self, helping to heal and integrate mind and body. This integration can lead to an increased sense of wholeness and compassion for yourself and others.

Trauma Sensitive Yoga

TCTSY does not use physical hands-on adjustments to influence a participant's physical form or suggest a 'correct' form. Rather, TCTSY presents opportunities for participants to be in charge of themselves based on a felt sense of their own body, there is no 'correct' way. By focusing on the felt sense of the body to inform choice-making, TCTSY allows participants to restore their connection of mind and body and cultivate a sense of agency that is often compromised as a result of trauma.
